Elfreth's Alley Cowl

Elfreth's Alley is the oldest residential street in the U.S. It's just a short distance from the shop in historic Old City, the home of Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell. It's always fun to stroll down this tiny street and imagine the early days of Philadelphia. If you're visiting the area, we highly recommend it!

Cobblestone and slate street and brick walkways are the inspiration for our Elfreth's Alley Cowl. Featuring alternating panels of garter stitch and basketweave, these classic stitch patterns echo the symmetry and order of this historic site.

Brooklyn Tweed Arbor is a soft, bouncy DK wool that's sourced in Montana and spun and dyed in Maine in a remarkable palette of 30 nuanced colors. Its worsted spin makes a sturdier yarn and fabric than their woolen-spun sister yarns like Shelter and Loft. The fiber used for Arbor is softer as well - soft enough for next-to-skin wear.

Arbor's stitch definition is crisp and clear thanks to its 3-ply construction. We used the color Driftwood and you can really see each cobblestone forming as you knit your way along Elfreth's Alley!

Elfreths Alley is easy to pull out of your scarf basket (everyone has a scarf basket by the front door, right?) and pop it on to wear with a denim jacket for cooler fall days or to tuck into your puffy coat this winter for extra warmth!
