The Funnel Cowl is one of our most popular knitting patterns, and this version in Juniper Moon Farm Rambouillet Air might be our coziest yet. It's wonderfully soft, surprisingly lightweight, and warm enough for chilly days without feeling heavy around your neck.
We've resized the original pattern to work with Rambouillet Air's larger gauge, making this an especially quick and satisfying project. Our sample uses just one ball of yarn, with some left over!
About the Yarn
Juniper Moon Farm Rambouillet Air is a chunky, bouclé-style yarn made from 64% American wool, 28% American cotton, and 8% nylon. Its unusual construction creates a soft, lofty fabric that feels almost weightless, while the wool provides plenty of warmth.
The yarn's gently textured surface gives even simple stockinette stitch a beautiful, plush appearance. It's particularly well suited to accessories worn close to the skin, where softness really matters.
Each 100-gram ball contains a generous 251 yards, making it possible to knit the entire Funnel Cowl with just one ball. Our sample is shown in Cabernet, a lovely, warm rose shade.
Design Details
The Funnel Cowl is a simple design with just a little bit of shaping. It's slightly narrower at the top than at the bottom, allowing it to sit comfortably around your neck while draping naturally on your shoulders.
Knit entirely in the round, the cowl features a stockinette body framed by ribbed borders. A series of evenly spaced decreases creates its subtle funnel shape without interrupting the smooth fabric.
The finished cowl measures approximately 27 inches around the bottom, 23 inches around the top, and 11 inches tall.
Because Rambouillet Air knits at a larger gauge, this version works up quickly. We didn't use the entire ball for our sample, so there's enough yarn left to add another repeat of the body pattern if you'd prefer a taller cowl. Just keep in mind that the finished dimensions will change.
