Like many of you, we fell hard for The Weekender by Andrea Mowry. Back in January, we had 2 sold-out Weekender classes starting and in the days leading up to class, the shop was filled with the buzz of students picking out their Brooklyn Tweed Shelter. So much fun!
The excitement was definitely contagious, because the more we helped our students, the more we wanted to knit one for ourselves! Cut to February 1st and we had a staff-wide knitalong on our hands! Much discussion was given to color choice and we all agonized over size selection. We went with all different sizes and I'll tell you all about each one.
Colorwise, I chose Shelter in Newsprint for my Weekender and I love it! It adds a little texture to normally all black & grey wardrobe. If you've seen me in the shop recently I've probably been wearing it, because I'm really happy with how it turned out!
Even though I normally fall squarely in the medium category, I opted to knit the small. The medium would have given me about 12" of positive ease and that just seemed too big! The small size give me a slightly more fitted sweater while still maintaining that boxy look I like so much.
Mary chose the Snowbound colorway in Shelter and knit the medium size. I would say that she & I are about the same size, so you can see that hers has a bit looser fit. She did a beautiful job, and this color acts as the perfect back drop to all of Mary's hand-dyed scarves & cowls.
Meredith loves bright colors, so choosing Old World was a bit of a departure for her. I think it was the right choice - look at how pretty her hair looks against this deep blue! Meredith also made a small and is very happy with the fit.
Brooklyn Tweed's Homemade Jam was made for Barb! This color looks fantastic on her. She knit the large, and it's the perfect combination of slouchy and structured.
Megan used Wool Socks for her sweater and it looks beautiful! She chose to knit the small size, but followed the sleeve instructions for the extra small. The fit is perfect and Meghan loved it so much she cast on for another for our Spring Shibui Knitalong!
The whole staff loved knitting this sweater, and I think many of us would knit it again. It hits that sweet spot between stylish and comfortable that most of us want from our everyday wardrobe. The best part, of course, is that we knit it together!
