Knitting Classes in Philadelphia

At Loop in Philadelphia, our knitting classes help you learn new skills, build confidence, and enjoy making something by hand. Whether you're picking up knitting needles for the first time or ready to tackle a more challenging project, our experienced instructors offer friendly, hands-on guidance in our South Street shop.

If you're completely new to knitting, Quick Start Knitting is a great place to begin. You'll learn to cast on and the knit stitch, while becoming comfortable working with needles and yarn.

Our Learn to Knit series builds skills through four practical classes. In Knit 1: A Neckwarmer, you'll learn to cast on, knit, purl, bind off, and follow a pattern while making your first accessory. Knit 2: A Hat introduces knitting in the round and shaping, while Knit 3: Socks explores knitting in the round with double-pointed needles, short rows, and picking up stitches. Knit 4: Fixing Mistakes helps you recognize and correct common problems so you can knit more confidently.

For knitters who already know the basics, our project-based classes offer opportunities to explore techniques such as colorwork, cables, lace, and sweater construction while creating something you'll enjoy wearing or giving.

If crochet is more your style - or you’re curious to learn something new - our Learn to Crochet series offers the same supportive, step-by-step approach. In Crochet 1, you’ll get comfortable holding your hook, making foundation chains, and learning basic stitches like single and double crochet. Crochet 2 builds on those skills with flat motifs made in the round and reading patterns, while Crochet 3 adds shaping to working in the round, so you can tackle garments and accessories. Like our knitting classes, each session focuses on learning through making, so you leave with both new skills and a project you’re proud of.

Above all, Loop’s classes are about community. Learning is more fun—and more effective—when it’s shared. Join us in our Philadelphia shop at 1914 South Street and connect with fellow makers as you grow your knitting skills.
