Wendy D. Johnson Returns!
Friday and Saturday, March 26 and 27

Knitter, designer, author, and teacher Wendy D. Johnson returns to Loop on Friday and Saturday, March 26 and 27 with her new book, Toe-Up Socks for Every Body.

Join us Friday evening from 5 to 7 pm for a book signing. You can meet and chat with Wendy and have her sign your book - we’ll have plenty of copies on hand! Then come back on Saturday and learn more about toe-up socks in a class with Wendy.

Toes and Heels for Toe-Up Socks

$35 - Saturday, March 27 from 10 am to 12 noon

This workshop is geared towards knitters who have perhaps made top-down socks (but experience with top-down socks is not required) and are interested in learning how to turn their sock knitting upside-down and go toe-up! You will learn how to cast on for toe-up socks, and create heels for toe-up socks. We will work through the cast-ons and heels, step-by-step.

A handout that documents and provides instructions for several different cast-ons and heels will be provided, so you can re-create at home what you’ve learned in class.

Prerequisites: You should be comfortable knitting in the round (either on two circular needles, using the magic loop technique, or on dpns).

Materials:
Smooth, light-colored yarn in sport or worsted weight (100 or 200 yards)
2 circular needles 16” or 24” long (or 1 long circular if you are a magic looper) in the same needle size (the size should be appropriate for your yarn.) You need circulars to do a couple of the cast-ons, but if you are more comfortable knitting in the round on dpns, bring them along as well.

Introduction to Toe-Up Sock Design

$35 - Saturday, March 27 from 1 to 3 pm

This workshop is for the sock knitter who is interested in creating his/her own patterns. While the class will focus on toe-up socks, the techniques taught can be as easily applied to top-down socks.

In this class you will learn some principals of good sock design, and how to incorporate different stitch patterns into your sock knitting to make your own original designs. A handout with basic sock templates and blank graphs, and a number of stitch patterns will be provided.

Prerequisite: You should have some experience knitting socks (either toe-up or top-down).

Materials:
Smooth light-colored fingering weight yarn (100 or 200 yards), needles that will give you a gauge of 8st/inch with your yarn, tape measure, a pencil and an eraser, calculator (optional). If you have a stitch dictionary with patterns you’d like to incorporate into socks, bring it along.

Please note that your full payment is required to reserve your space. No refunds will be made unless the class is canceled by Loop. Thank you!
