Come meet other knitters and learn from our talented teachers in a bright and comfortable setting! Classes are limited in size and are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Full payment is needed to reserve your space. Cancellations must be made 5 days prior to the first class for a refund. If we cancel a class, you’ll receive a full refund. Supplies are not included in class fee unless stated.

TECHNIQUE DEMONSTRATIONS

These 1-hour sessions focus on a specific technique. Watch a demonstration and then give it a try. The cost of each session is $10, which will be applied to any purchases you make that day. Just as with all our classes, space is limited, so please call or stop in to register.

For all demonstrations, please bring worsted weight & US8 needles or chunky weight & US10.5 needles.

CAST ONS

We’ll share a few tips for the long tail cast on, then look at the knitted cast on, cabled cast on, and twisted German cast on.

KNITTING STYLES

In our beginning knitting class, we teach American or English knitting. Here we’ll introduce Continental, Combination, and Portuguese knitting.

INCREASING

We’ll look at several ways to add stitches to your knitting including knit front and back, make ones, and lifted.

DECREASING

Whether you’ve never knit before or it’s just been a long time, you’ll get a solid foundation of knitting fundamentals in Beginning Knitting class. You’ll learn to cast on, knit, purl, bind off, decrease and pick up lots of other tips and tricks while knitting your first hand warmer and hat. All materials are included.

Knit a sweater that's just for you! In this class, we’ll take your measurements, discuss yarn selection and swatching, help you measure your gauge, and choose your sweater design elements. We'll prepare your pattern using CustomFit and review it with you before you cast on.

You can use any weight yarn with CustomFit. If this is your first sweater, we recommend worsted weight yarn.

supplies: You’ll select your yarn during the first class and begin swatching. Please bring several sizes of needles that will work with the yarn weight you think you’ll choose.

Join us for this year-long exploration of knitting! Every month you'll knit a new square designed to introduce you to a new skill. Each square, or block, builds upon the skills learned in the previous ones, giving you more confidence, knowledge and skill. At the end of the year, your knitting know-how will be vastly increased and you'll have a blocks to make a beautiful sampler blanket!

supplies: Building Blocks by Michelle Hunter, 10-12 skeins of Hikoo Simpliworsted (10 if you use one color for every block, 12 if you use a different color for each block), US10 needles or size to get gauge, stitch markers, darning needle, row counter.

Like the Building Blocks class, this is year-long knitting adventure, but focused on color! Every month you'll knit a panel designed to introduce you to a new stitches and techniques for knitting with color. Assemble the panels at the end of the year and you'll have a colorful blanket and an arsenal of new knitting skills.

supplies: Building in Color by Michelle Hunter, 24 skeins of Hikoo Simplicity (8 skeins in each of 3 colors), US6 needles or size to get gauge, stitch markers, darning needle, row counter.

FIRST SOCKS

Your First Sock!

Mondays, September 15, 22 & 29, 6-8pm

Make your first sock from start to finish in this introductory class. You will use worsted weight yarn to knit a sock from the cuff down, turn a heel and kitchener the toe! You will be able to complete 1 sock in class. 

supplies: 300 yds of worsted weight yarn for a pair. We used Spud & Chloe Sweater, US 7 double pointed needles.

INTRODUCTION TO TOP DOWN SHAWLS
$24 plus materials, pattern included.

Learn the mystery of the stockinette tab cast on and get started on your first top down shawl. You can begin the Tre Colori shawl that's shown above - in one or many colors - or bring yarn and needles just to learn the technique.

supplies: 3 skeins of Cobasi or 660 yds of fingering weight yarn, US4 24" circular needle OR yarn with corresponding needles.

INTRODUCTION TO LACE SHAWLS

Get an introduction to lace knitting, while making the Amarillo shawl. You'll learn about yarnovers, decreases, and to work from written and charted patterns. This class is perfect for confident beginner and intermediate knitters. 

supplies: Amarillo Shawl pattern, 1 skein of Madelinetosh Pashmina or 360 yards of sport weight yarn, US7 24-inch circular needles.

VEGA HAT
$48 for two 2-hour sessions

You know how to knit with one color, get ready to knit with two! In this class you’ll learn the basics of two color stranding knitting and chart reading, while knitting a cool, graphic beret.

supplies: Vega pattern, 2 skeins - each in a different color - of Brooklyn Tweed Shelter yarn or 140 yards of 2 colors of worsted weight yarn, US5 16-inch circular, US6 16-inch circular & double pointed needles.

homework: please come to class with materials chosen, and the hat ribbing completed.

TOP DOWN BABY CARDIGAN

Learn to make a seamless cardigan while knitting One, an adorable baby cardigan. Designed by Loop Staffer Erika Flory, One is one of our most popular baby knits. You'll learn to knit from the top down using increases through the yoke, to separate the sleeves, and to complete the body.

supplies: 1 skein of Spud & Chloe Sweater yarn or 160 yards of worsted weight yarn, US8 24-inch circular needle, stitch markers; a copy of the One pattern is included.

INTRODUCTION TO CABLES

While cables look difficult, even the most intricate are made by knitting stitches out of order. Learn how to do this while making a cozy cowl for fall!

supplies: 1 skein of Lana Vida Francesca yarn or 120 yards of chunky weight yarn and US10.5 16-inch circular needle, stitch marker

homework: Cast on 88sts. Place marker and join in the round being careful not to twist. Round 1: *K2, p2; rep from * to end. Rep round 1 a total of 5 times. Leave work on the needle and bring to class.

BABY HATS

Baby hats make great shower gifts and are so fun to knit! With Kathy's Baby Hat pattern and super soft MillaMia Naturally Soft Merino yarn, you'll choose from a variety of options to knit a beautiful hat that's perfect for giving.

supplies: 1 ball of MillaMia Naturally Soft Merino (or more if you want to use multiple colors), US2 & US3 16-inch circular needles and US3 double pointed needles, stitch markers; Kathy's Baby Hat pattern is included.

SEASON’S HAT

Jared Flood's Season's Hat features classic stranded knitting motifs in beautiful Brooklyn Tweed colors. Learn to knit with two colors at a time and to read colorwork charts.

supplies: Season's Hat kit (coming soon) or 5 skeins of Brooklyn Tweed Loft each in a different color, US4, US2, US1 16-inch circular needles, US2 double pointed needles, stitch markers.

homework: Please come to the first class with the hat knit up to the first round of color knitting.

SEAMLESS SWEATER FOR BABY

Learn to knit a top down sweater in a manageable baby size! We’ll be using our South Street Pullover for Babies with worsted weight yarn - we love Spud & Chloe Sweater for this project. This is an ideal first sweater project. 

Homework: Please choose your materials and knit a gauge swatch in the round by casting on 40 stitches with your yarn and larger needles, joining in the round and knitting for 3 inches. Measure gauge and adjust as needle to get 18 stitches and 22 rounds to 4 inches. 

supplies: 260-355 yds worsted weight yarn depending on size, US 5 & 7 16-inch circulars & DPNS, stitch markers. 

BOUGH HAT

Leila Raabe's Bough is a beautiful cabled hat that's perfect for fall! In this class you'll learn to read cable knitting charts and to work cables.

supplies: Bough knitting pattern, 2 skeins of Brooklyn Tweed Shelter or 215 yards of similar worsted weight yarn, US4 and US7 16-inch circular needles & US7 double pointed needles or size to get gauge, stitch markers, darning needle.

homework: Please come to the first class with the hat knit up to the first round of cable knitting.

SANTAS & GNOMES
