We’re pleased to welcome Anne Hanson to Loop for the first time on Saturday and Sunday, April 10 and 11. Anne is a knitwear designer who publishes her patterns through her company Knitspot. She designs everything from hats and socks to shawls and sweaters. You can see her designs and learn more about her work at knitspot.com. Anne is a life-long knitter with experience in the fashion and graphic design fields. Anne’s background as a patternmaker and draper, technical designer, and costumer in New York City’s garment district informs her work, providing a rich source of experience in garment construction and fit, as well as knowledge of a wide range of fibers and fabrics. Holes in My Socks$45 - Saturday, April 10 from 10 am to 1 pm A beginning lace class for sock knitters who have not knit lace or who have struggled with it. You'll learn about tools and techniques for successful lace knitting, types of lace stitches, lace terminology, opposing decreases for shaping, working with lace motifs in the round, and simple architectural and pictorial shapes in lace. You will begin a Winding Diamonds lace sock project. Pre-requisites: You must have completed several sock projects, have a complete understanding of increasing and decreasing, be able to read patterns with ease, and be able to execute kichener stitch without assistance. Supplies: stitch markers, notepad, dental floss or fine cotton yarn (for lifelines), one skein of sock yarn for project work, sock needles appropriate for yarn of choice, plus pattern for Winding Diamonds sock. Homework: prepare for sock project by knitting a gauge swatch, casting on for the correct size, and knitting one cuff; you should be ready to start the lace pattern of the sock during class. |
Advanced Lace Knitting; taking it to the next level$45 - Saturday, April 10 from 2 to 5 pm An advanced class which covers knitted lace (motifs with lace knitting on RS and WS of fabric), chart reading, using provisional cast-ons, working with incorporated edgings and knit-on edgings, shaping for shawls of various types. Pre-requisites: You should have successfully completed at least two intermediate lace projects and worked with a variety of lace motifs so that you have an understanding of lace architecture, terminology, pattern reading, and how stitches are put together to make lace motifs and compositions. In class, you’ll work on a doll-sized sample shawl (pattern will be provided) incorporating the techniques discussed. Supplies: stitch markers, notepad, dental floss or fine cotton yarn (for lifelines), 200-300 yards of fingering yarn for practice, size 5 or 6 needles, crochet hook size E or F, and a few yards of smooth scrap yarn in a contrasting color. A magnetic board may be helpful. The Sweater Fitness Workshop$90 - Sunday, April 11 from 10 am to 5 pm (includes 1 hour lunch break) Get into your best shape ever! This intermediate class covers the important basics of sweater fit and construction. You will complete a thorough set of body measurements and discuss how to use them to choose and use a sweater pattern in an appropriate size. Topics of discussion will include yarn choices, working with textured motifs in sweater construction (and how to work around shaping), pattern reading and terminology, types and uses of shaping techniques (increasing and decreasing), tips and tricks for successful navigation through a sweater project. You will knit a gauge swatch in class, read and discuss your pattern and discuss, and possibly begin a sleeve piece. Pre-requisites: You must have a complete understanding of increasing and decreasing, and be able to execute k2tog, ssk, sl1 k2tog psso, without assistance. You should have completed a project that requires shaping (sweater, mittens, etc) and intermediate level of knitting skill and pattern reading (understanding of intermediate knitting terminology is expected). Materials: Markers, notepad, 50-100 yards of project yarn for swatching, pattern(s) being considered. Register today - space is limited! |
