Classes & Events

Classes and Workshops

Improve your knitting and meet other knitters in classes and workshops taught by the Loop Staff!

Classes are limited to 8 people and are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Full payment is required when you sign-up.

We require a minimum of three people for each class so get your friends to sign up with you! You will receive a full refund if the class is cancelled and a 50% refund if you withdraw from the class at least 48 hours before it begins.

Beginning Knitting

$96 for four 2-hour sessions
Tuesdays, 6 to 8 pm: October 7, 14, 21, 28
Tuesdays, 6 to 8 pm: November 4, 11, 18, 25
Tuesdays, 6 to 8 pm: December 2, 9, 16, 23

Get a solid foundation of knitting skills in our Beginning Knitting class. You will learn to cast on, knit, purl, bind off, increase, and decrease. Yarn and needles are included.

Learn to Crochet

$24, materials included
Saturday, 11 am to 1 pm: October 4 or 11

Learn to chain, single and double crochet, and enter the world of crochet! Yarn + hook included.

Learn to Knit

$24, materials included
Saturday, 11 am to 1 pm: November 8 or 22

Learn to knit and to purl, and you will be on your way! This class also makes a great refresher if you have not knit for a while.

Sweater Class

$80 for five 2-hour sessions
Mondays, 6 to 8 pm: Oct 6, 20, Nov 3, 17, Dec 1

Start knitting a sweater in October and you will be wearing it for the holidays! Whether it’s your first sweater or your most challenging, you will get instruction each step of the way in this class. In the first class you will select your project and yarn and begin swatching. Then you will meet every other week with the goal of completing your sweater!

Lady February Sweater

$64 for four 2 hour sessions
Wednesdays, 6 to 8 pm: October 15, 22, Nov 5 & 12

The adaptation of Elizabeth Zimmerman’s popular Baby February Sweater by Pamela Wynne became an instant hit when it was released earlier this year. Learn to knit a cardigan from the top down while making yourself this beautiful sweater. Come to the class ready to select and purchase your yarn and needles; pattern included.

Swirl Shawl

$32 for two 2-hour sessions
Mondays, 6 to 8 pm: October 13 and 20

Jojoland’s Swirl Shawl pattern is a wonderful combination of lace motifs and there beautiful yarn, Melody. Learn the techniques to make this lovely shawl for you or a friend. Come to the class ready to select and purchase your yarn and needles; pattern included.

Beret

$32 for two 2-hour sessions

Baby Surprise Jacket

$48 for three 2-hour sessions, pattern incl.
Mondays, 6 to 8 pm: November 3, 10 and 17

Baby Surprise Jacket in Koigu

Knit flat in one piece and seamed at the shoulders, this design will become on of your favorites! You will need 350 yards of fingering weight yarn and a pair of size 4 needles.

Lace Beret

$48 for three 2-hour sessions
Wednesdays, 6 to 8 pm: Nov 19, 26 and Dec 3

Learn to read a lace chart and to make a beret. Come to the class ready to select and purchase your yarn and needles; pattern included.

Cabled Cowl

$48 for three 2-hour sessions
Thursdays, 6 to 8 pm: November 6, 13 and 20

Add depth to your knitting with cables! You will learn to knit cables while making a fashionable and function cowl. Come to the class ready to select and purchase your yarn and needles; pattern included.

Felted Ornaments/Jewelry Workshop $70

Session 1: Friday, October 31 from 6 to 9 PM
Session 2: Sunday, November 2 from 2 to 5 PM

Learn to transform colored roving into beautiful felted balls that can be joined together to create one-of-a-kind ornaments, garland, jewelry or perhaps a pincushion. Students will also learn needle felting techniques to embellish felted balls with contrasting colors. Alternatives for incorporating beads and/or embroidery will also be covered. Class materials are included.

Intro to Intarsia, $80

Saturday, November 1 from 10 AM to 2:30 PM (1/2 hour lunch break)

Add a little color to your life...or at least to your knitting! Using an original pattern, learn the art of multicolor knitting while creating this useful, fun and unusual felted bag.

Shibori Felting Workshop, $65

Sunday, November 2 from 10 AM to 1 PM

Learn to apply time-honored Shibori techniques to create dimension and texture to your knitting. Shibori is a Japanese term used to describe shape-resist techniques traditionally used to dye fabric.

You will be asked to bring several swatches of simple stockinette stitch to practice these techniques in class, then felt swatches at home.

Fresh on the heels of the release of her first book, Blueprint Crochet: Modern Designs for the Visual Crocheter, Robyn Chachula will visit us for a weekend of crochet fun!

Beyond the Afghan, $45

Saturday, November 15 from 10 am to 1 pm

Learn how to transform granny squares into amazing lace for sweaters and fun motifs for unique jewelry! Along the way we will learn to read crochet symbols, practice different fun lacy granny squares, learn how to read layout diagrams, how to play with blocks to get your own customized sweaters, and learn how to join granny squares in a variety of ways using only crocheting. That’s right, no sewing required! Lastly we will talk about finishing techniques to transform your projects from ho-hum to wow-wow.

Bring a ball of plain yarn, a matching hook and 2 granny squares (any size and any style). You will receive a packet on how to read crochet symbols, granny square diagrams, crochet joinings, finishing techniques, and a pattern for the Crystal Lace Bolero.

Crochet Like a Pro, $45

Sunday, November 16 from 2 pm to 5 pm

Learn designer tips and tricks to make your work look sensational. We will discuss the joys of blocking, the ways around frogging some of the worst mistakes (like how to move a button hole, and how to cut your crochet), finishing techniques that will make your garment look store bought. We will also try out different techniques to crochet colorwork and crochet with beads.

Bring any 2 balls of plain yarn (contrasting colors) and matching hook, one swatch of 16 hdc across by 10 rows tall. After 6 rows, crochet 6hdc, ch 4, sk 4 hdc, 6 hdc in last sts. Next row, crochet in each hdc across and 4 hdc in ch-4 sp. You will take away a packet of all the tips and tricks we will learn during the class.

Funny Thing I Learned on the Way to the Baby Sweater, $45

Sunday, November 16 from 2 to 5 pm

In the class, you will learn how to become your own crochet designer. We discuss baby garments from idea to conception. We talk about what yarns are good to use, what styles are easy to wear, and what stitches are best for kids. We will learn how to plan out a garment from stitch count to row count.

By the end of the class, everyone will have their own design planned out for their unique baby sweater. This is a great class for any advanced beginner crocheter that is ready to take that next step into garment projects or for any aspiring designers that are looking for some tips.

Bring one 6"x6" swatch in any yarn and any stitch pattern that you would like to build a baby sweater from, do not worry about type of yarn or stitch too much. This is just to start the class, so let your creative juices fly. Bring calculator and extra yarn and hooks to class. You will take away a packet of the steps and concepts we will learn during the class.
